Saint George served as an officer in the Roman army, yet his highest allegiance belonged to Christ. When commanded to sacrifice to idols, he tore down the false gods and confessed the Holy Trinity openly.
Tortures and imprisonment could not silence his courage. Miracles accompanied his trials, leading many to baptism, including Empress Alexandra. After his martyrdom he remained a swift helper for soldiers, farmers, and families seeking protection.
Icons show George slaying a dragon, symbolizing Christ’s victory over the devil. His intercession emboldens Orthodox Christians to renounce fear, defend the innocent, and conquer evil with steadfast faith.

As the deliverer of captives and defender of the poor, healer of the infirm, champion of kings, victorious great martyr George, intercede with Christ our God for the salvation of our souls.
